The 7th Interior Regional Provincial Playoff Qualifier Tournament was hosted by West Kelowna’s Lakeview Heights Tennis Club on June 22nd and 23rd. Six Ladies teams (composed of three doubles teams) and five Men’s teams (composed of two doubles and one singles player) participated. Players came from West Kelowna, Kelowna, Summerland, Salmon Arm and Kamloops to play off for the 4.0 – 4.5 and 3.0 – 3.5 category spots. The winners will represent the Interior at the Provincial finals at Bear Mountain Tennis Centre in Victoria on August 16th, 17th and 18th.
The West Kelowna Club will be well represented this year with the winning men’s team in the 3.0-3.5 category and the “LV Pink Panthers” ladies team in the 4.0 – 4.5 category. The men’s 4.0- 4.5 representatives will be a team fielded from the Mission Club in Kelowna entitled “On a Mission” and the 3.0 – 3.5 Ladies representative will be the “Kamloops Over Served” team.
It was a terrific weekend of competitive tennis that the weather threatened to dampen on Sunday morning, but the organizers persevered, cleared the courts of water 4 times and with the generous help of Global Fitness and Racquets Club in Kelowna who offered the afternoon use of their 3 courts, 69 matches were played and the tournament could be completed.
