Learn about all the ways adults in BC can participate in events and be involved in the local tennis community:
NTRP stands for National Tennis Rating Program. In BC, NTRP events are typically held from level 2.5 to 5.0, with 5.0 + being called the Open category.
Using a self-rating guide and their World Tennis Number (WTN) ratings, NTRP players can select the appropriate category to compete in.

In 2025, Tennis BC will follow Tennis Canada guidelines to use WTN data to ensure players are competing in the appropriate category based on a combination of their selected NTRP category and their current WTN range which will ensure fair competition for everyone and will improve the competitive experience.
In our continued efforts to provide more meaningful competition for our adult members, Tennis Canada will conduct periodic match play data analysis to align our WTN recommendations with the NTRP categories. This analysis is conducted with our partners, ITF, and other federations etc.
Based on the latest analysis conducted at the end of 2024, below is the new categorization of WTN recommendations for NTRP levels.
Tennis Canada WTN – NTRP Recommended Guidelines
Effective January 2025
MS 5.0 (WTN 20+) | WS 5.0 (WTN 20+) |
MS 4.5 (WTN 22+) | WS 4.5 (WTN 23+) |
MS 4.0 (WTN 24+) | WS 4.0 (WTN 26+) |
MS 3.5 (WTN 26+) | WS 3.5 (WTN 28+) |
MS 3.0 (WTN 28+) | WS 3.0 (WTN 30+) |
MS 2.5 (WTN 30+) | WS 2.5 (WTN 32+) |
For Doubles, the average WTN of the team (average of two players’ WTN) should be used to determine the appropriate NTRP level they should register in.
For Mixed Doubles, the WTN guidelines will follow Women Singles Guidelines.
Players are encouraged to opt in to share their WTN with Tennis Canada.
How to opt in:
If you have results in the system but are unable to view your WTN on your tournaments profile page, it is likely because you opted in to not sharing your match results data with the ITF back in 2020. In order to check this please:
- Visit the tournaments site and log in
- After you have logged in, click on your name on the top-right and select “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu
- Scroll down to the “Consent” section
- If you would like to show your WTN in your profile, make sure it says “Yes.”
You should see your WTN appear on your profile within one to two weeks. If it does not appear, please email tournaments@tenniscanada.com.
The Seniors category consists of ranking, non-ranking, and ITF Seniors events. Categories are based on age, starting from the age of 30. Events typically run in 5 or 10 year increments. To learn more about Seniors tennis, click here.
