Guillermo/Smith Crowned EncoreFX Doubles Champions
Friday was quarterfinal day at Panorama Recreation with the last 8 players vying for spots in the semifinals of the EncoreFX Victoria International Women’s ITF Tennis Championships.
Lorraine Guillermo and Kristina Smith won a third set tiebreaker victory over Victoria Flores (USA) and Katherine Fahey (USA) 5-7, 6-1, 13-11
Fahey and Guillermo will have to face off against each other once again on Saturday in semifinal singles action.
Fahey defeated Canadian Stacey Fung in two sets 6-3, 6-4 while Lorraine Guillermo took a three set battle with Nicole Hoynaski of Australia 4-6,7-6,6-2.
On the top half of the draw first seed Alexa Graham with taken to the brink by Steffi Carruthers of Samoa the fifth seed in a hard hitting affair 3-6,6-2,6-3.
The last semifinal spot goes to Jessica Failla who defeated Ines Karmina Vias in straight sets.
The first semifinal on Saturday will feature Graham vs Failla followed by Fahey vs Guillermo.
Action starts at 10:30 am at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich.
Admission is free and on court seating is available.
