Tennis BC – New Executive Director Appointment
After a comprehensive search over many weeks the Board of Tennis BC is very pleased to announce the appointment of Henry Choi as their new Executive Director. Henry brings a wealth of related experience with him. For over 10 years Henry was the Director of Racquets and Athletics at Richmond Country Club. He has also held various positions at Vancouver Lawn and Tennis Club and Rosedale Tennis Club in Hamilton, Ontario. Henry is a Tennis Canada certified Level 3 Professional and has a Bachelor and Masters in Sports Management and Administration from Indiana State University. Henry is well known in the tennis community and has been ranked by the ITF as World #1 in singles and doubles in age categories over the years.
As we welcome Henry to Tennis BC, he will lead the team as they inspire and support the growth of tennis throughout the province. Tennis BC has been successful with its many programs including the public and community programming at the Stanley Park and Richmond HUBS and has grown its tournaments including the National Bank Stanley Park Open (the largest public court tennis tournament in North America), which Henry has himself won more than once. Henry has experience working directly for Tennis Canada and will now lead the Tennis BC team as it enters the second year of its five-year strategic plan.
We look forward to continuing the work under this plan:
- to increase participation through positive experiences to encourage more opportunities for tennis to be played at all levels
- to see players stay in the game by supporting tennis communities and enhancing our culture of the game; and
- to build the game through increasing opportunities to play recreationally and at higher levels
At this time the Board would also like to extend its sincere thanks to Rick Hastings who has served as the interim Executive Director for the past seven months. Rick has provided stability to the Tennis BC staff and stakeholders and as a lifelong tennis player and advocate, Rick will now help in the transition process to our permanent Executive Director.
